The British Liver Trust has been working closely for many months with the producers at BBC Panorama to provide critical insights into liver disease, alcohol misuse, and the urgent need for action. As part of this, they facilitated filming at one of their Love Your Liver roadshows, arranged interviews with senior clinicians and connected the team with Emma, one of their supporters, who was diagnosed with alcohol-related liver disease at just 37.
The programme, which aired on 25 November, explores the troubling rise in alcohol-related liver disease among women in their 40s and younger. Reporter Hazel Martin shares her deeply personal journey to understand this growing health crisis, uncovering why so many young women, including those who don’t see themselves as alcohol-dependent, are now facing liver damage.
