On Saturday 23 November 2024, Fast-Track Cities Leeds held an event at Left Bank Leeds on Cardigan Road. The evening was a celebration of the commitment and work across Leeds and Yorkshire to reach zero transmissions of HIV, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis (TB) by 2030.
The event brought together healthcare professionals, community organisations, and supporters to highlight the incredible work taking place as part of the Fast-Track Cities initiative. Attendees at the event enjoyed an engaging programme with guest speakers that included Cllr Abigail Marshall Katung Lord Mayor of Leeds and Matt Sidebottom, Director of Quality and Nursing (Bevan Healthcare).
Dr Emma Page Consultant in Virology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) was also a speaker at the event and delivered an informative presentation about “Get Tested LeEDs”, a new initiative launched at the end of September 2024, where patients who attend one of the emergency departments at Leeds Teaching Hospitals (LTHT) and require a blood test are tested for blood-borne viruses (BBVs) HIV, hepatitis B and C.
In addition to Dr Page, John Fox, West Yorkshire Peer Programme Manager from the Hepatitis C Trust shared insights from the work his team of Peer have successfully undertaken in Calderdale, working in collaboration with the Mission Zero team. John highlighted how community partnerships are driving real change in access to testing and treatment in local and hard to reach communities.
The evening was an inspiring blend of positivity, passion, and collaboration, attendees also enjoyed other entertainment on the night including interactive information stalls, a glittering catwalk, and live music performances.
