We are excited to announce that Recovery Steps Calderdale, part of the Humankind organisation has achieved micro-eliminated Hepatitis C.
The service in Calderdale is the first drug service in the West Yorkshire Liver Care ODN area to achieve micro-elimination. The Recovery Steps team have worked tirelessly to identify their clients at risk, ensure that they have been tested and working closely with the ODN team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust they have supported their clients through the treatment pathway to ensure Hepatitis C is micro-eliminated from their service.
Achieving this milestone was a multi-disciplinary approach, involving key players from different department across Humankind, bringing together their expertise so that the four elimination criteria were met. Humankinds National Hepatitis C Co-ordinator, Debbie Moores and Regional Hepatitis C Coordinator Darren Bloomfield identified Hepatitis C Champions, supported the elimination agenda to ensured that the Humankind team was available to support the Recovery Steps team.
Debbie Moores, Humankinds National Hepatitis C Co-ordinator said: “Management support has been crucial to ensure elimination is a priority for the team and this will continue. None of this would have been possible without support from the ODN, Hepatology nurses and the Hepatitis C Trust, who have worked diligently to capture those who require support into treatment and of course support from the Gilead sciences team.”
“Both teams will continue to test, treat and educate clients to reduce risk and prevent transmission of Hepatitis.”
