On Thursday 31st July 2025, the Bangladeshi Community Centre on Roundhay Road in Harehills, Leeds, came alive with activity as partners joined forces for a community health event. In collaboration with Nanu Sports Foundation, The Hepatitis C Trust, the Community Liver Health Checks – Liver Buddies team, and the Leeds Bangladeshi Community Centre, the day focused on raising awareness of liver health and offering on-the-spot testing services.

The event aimed to engage local community particularly those at higher risk of liver disease, by providing free information, advice, and access to liver health services. The Liver Buddies team offered one-on-one guidance on liver health and lifestyle, with Fibroscan liver checks available for individuals who met risk criteria.
All available appointments were booked and completed, demonstrating strong community interest and need for these services. A total of 21 individuals received a liver scan and Hepatitis C test.
This event is a powerful example of grassroots collaboration between the NHS, voluntary sector organisations, and community-based groups working to reduce health inequalities. With strong ties to Bangladeshi and wider South Asian communities, the day was not only well-attended but also culturally attuned creating an environment where people felt safe, informed, and empowered to take charge of their health.
Events like this reinforce the power of meeting people where they are in trusted community spaces, surrounded by familiar faces, and supported by peers and professionals. We’re proud to work alongside partners such as Nanu Sports Foundation and the Bangladeshi Community Centre, whose local leadership makes outreach efforts both possible and impactful.
We look forward to building on this success through future events, as part of our ongoing mission to improve liver health, eliminate Hepatitis C, and ensure that no one is left behind.
