On 10 January 2025, a meeting to promote liver health in Leeds was organised by liver consultant, Dr Richard Parker. Three Leeds MPs were invited, The Rt Hon Hilary Benn, Fabian Hamilton and Richard Burgon to discuss liver health. At the meeting he was joined by LTHT CEO, Professor Phil Wood, colleagues from the Liver Unit, Councillor Fiona Venner, Dr Pippa Bird from Leeds City Council and representatives from Forward Leeds and the British Liver Trust.
The focus was to raise awareness of liver disease and the links to poor diet, obesity and alcohol abuse, calling for support from the MPs and councillors around public health messaging. At the meeting they heard from a liver patient, talking about their experience which was well received and was a really engaging session.
